Research Safety Courses

Registration for research safety classes is done through EHSA.(Instructions can be found on the EHSA Registration page. Once registered, research safety classes can be accessed through UCF Webcourses.

Biological Safety

  • EHS102 Biological Safety Orientation (Webcourses)
  • (Required for individuals working in a laboratory with biological materials.) There are three parts to the biological safety Training. The first two EHS102 and EHS201 are taken online and the last is the hands-on practical, EHS116: Combined Biological/Chemical Safety Practical. Note: For those working with biologicals , both EHS102 and EHS201 are required and can be taken simultaneously.
  • EHS104 Biological Safety Annual Refresher (Webcourses)
  • (Required annually for individuals working in a biological laboratory. Prerequisites: EHS102, EHS201 and EHS116. EHS203 can be taken simultaneously.) An annual refresher course that includes updated material and topics.
  • EHS116 Combined Lab/Bio Safety Practical (classroom)
  • (Required for individuals working in a laboratory with biological materials.) This hands-on practical session is the third portion of the biological safety training. Completion of EHS102 and EHS201 is required. Note: For those working with biologicals , both EHS102 and EHS201 are required and can be taken simultaneously.
  • EHS140 Bloodborne Pathogens for Healthcare and Laboratories (Webcourses)
  • Required annually for individuals working with or around human blood, serum, or tissues.
  • EHS155 Controlled Substances (Webcourses)
  • (Required for individuals working with controlled substances drugs.) The course is taken online on an annual basis. An annual refresher course that includes updated material and topics is required.
  • EHS180 Animal Exposure in a Research Setting (Webcourses)
  • (Required for individuals working with and or exposed to animals in a research setting.) The course is taken online and required every 3 years.
  • Laboratory Safety

  • EHS201 Laboratory Safety Orientation (Webcourses)
  • (Required for individuals working in a laboratory at UCF for the first time.) There are two parts to the Laboratory Safety Training. The first, EHS201, is taken online and the second is the hands-on practical, EHS202 Laboratory Safety Practical. Note: EHS202 will not satisfy the practical requirement need for working with biologicals. See the Biological Safety heading above for training requirements.
  • EHS202 Laboratory Safety Practical (classroom)
  • (Required for individuals working in a laboratory at UCF for the first time.) This hands-on practical session is the second portion of the laboratory safety training. Completion of EHS201,is required. Note: EHS202 will not satisfy the practical requirement need for working with biologicals.
  • EHS203 Laboratory Safety Refresher (Webcourses)
  • (Required annually for individuals working in a laboratory. Prerequisites: EHS201 and EHS202.) An annual refresher course that includes updated material and topics.
  • Radiation Safety

  • EHS301 Radiation Safety Orientation (Webcourses)
  • There are two parts to the Radiation Safety Training. The first EHS301 is taken online and the second EHS302 is the hands-on Radiation Safety Practical. Required for individuals working in a laboratory with radioactive materials.
  • EHS302 Radiation Safety Practical (in-person)
  • Required for individuals working in a laboratory with radioactive materials. This hands-on practical session is the second portion of the radiation safety training.
  • EHS303 Radiation Safety Refresher for Radioactive Materials Users (Webcourses)
  • (Required annually for individuals working in a laboratory with radioactive materials. Prerequisites: EHS301 and EHS302.) An annual refresher course that includes updated material and topics.
  • EHS309 Laser Safety Orientation (Webcourses)
  • An introduction to basic laser safety principles.
  • EHS320 Radiation Safety Awareness for Non-RAD Workers(Webcourses)
  • An introduction to radiation safety principles.
