Research Safety Courses

Biological Safety

  • EHS102 Biological Safety Orientation (online)
    (Required for individuals working in a laboratory with biological materials.) There are three parts to the biological safety Training. The first two EHS102 and EHS201 are taken online and the last is the hands-on practical, EHS116: Combined Biological/Chemical Safety Practical. Note: For those working with biologicals , both EHS102 and EHS201 are required and can be taken simultaneously.
  • EHS104 - Biological Safety Annual Refresher (online)
    (Required annually for individuals working in a biological laboratory. Prerequisites: EHS102, EHS201 and EHS116. EHS203 can be taken simultaneously.) An annual refresher course that includes updated material and topics.
  • EHS116- Combined Lab/Bio Safety Practical (lecture)
    (Required for individuals working in a laboratory with biological materials.) This hands-on practical session is the third portion of the biological safety training. Completion of EHS102 and EHS201 is required. Note: For those working with biologicals , both EHS102 and EHS201 are required and can be taken simultaneously.

Laboratory Safety

  • EHS201 - Laboratory Safety Orientation (online)
    (Required for individuals working in a laboratory at UCF for the first time.) There are two parts to the Laboratory Safety Training. The first, EHS201, is taken online and the second is the hands-on practical, EHS202 Laboratory Safety Practical. Note: EHS202 will not satisfy the practical requirement need for working with biologicals. See the Biological Safety heading above for training requirements.
  • EHS202 - Laboratory Safety Practical (lecture)
    (Required for individuals working in a laboratory at UCF for the first time.) This hands-on practical session is the second portion of the laboratory safety training. Completion of EHS201,is required. Note: EHS202 will not satisfy the practical requirement need for working with biologicals.
  • EHS203 - Laboratory Safety Refresher (online)
    (Required annually for individuals working in a laboratory. Prerequisites: EHS201 and EHS202.) An annual refresher course that includes updated material and topics.

Radiation Safety

  • EHS301 - Radiation Safety Orientation (online)
    There are two parts to the Radiation Safety Training. The first EHS301 is taken online and the second EHS302 is the hands-on Radiation Safety Practical. Required for individuals working in a laboratory with radiological materials.

  • EHS302 - Radiation Safety Practical (lecture)
    Required for individuals working in a laboratory with radiological materials. This hands-on practical session is the second portion of the radiation safety training.


  • EHS309 - Laser Safety Orientation (online)
    An introduction to basic laser safety principles.

  • EHS320 - Radiation Safety Awareness (online)
    An introduction to radiation safety principles.

Bloodborne Pathogens

  • EHS140 - Bloodborne Pathogens for Healthcare and Laboratories (online)
    Required for individuals working with or around human blood, serum, or tissues.
