Job Safety Analysis

A job safety analysis (JSA) is a proactive evaluation intended to identify hazards and prevent injuries and illnesses as well as property damage before they occur. It focuses on evaluating the worker, the task, the tools, and the work environment. The process of conducting a JSA includes identifying the actual or potential hazards and establishing the requirements needed to eliminate or reduce them to an acceptable risk level. In this analysis, it is utilized the Hierarchy of Controls where Elimination, Substitution, and Engineering Controls are always preferred over the Administrative Controls and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Additionally, the JSA identifies the specific training need to perform the job safely as well as any required medical test.
